Dragon Minis

Wizards of the Coast recently released a set of new minis that are five dragons. The dragon collectors set as they are calling it includes five dragons two of which are new never before seen sculpts and 3 of which are reprints of past sets.

The cost for these five minis is $44.99... that's right nearly $50... The last time I bought minis, probably about 2 years ago I bought a case of them for $55. A case is 5 boxes of 15 random minis, 14 normal sized an 1 large each.

So basically what you have here is wizards is trying to sell you a case of minis without bothering to give you the 70 non large figures that you would have got 2 years ago. In my opinion that's highway robbery.

Here's the official press release for the set

Dragon Collector's Set
D&D Miniatures
Wizards RPG Team

Each dragon is a deadly match for an experienced band of adventurers.

Of all the monsters in the world, dragons are the most feared. A fledgling group of adventurers might have what it takes to best a weak dragon, but the most powerful dragons are awesome, devastating creatures that rival even the gods.
Inside this limited-edition box set, you will find the five most iconic evil dragons in the Dungeons & Dragons game.
Each box contains five non-random, pre-painted, durable plastic miniatures for use in the Dungeons & Dragons Roleplaying Game. Two of the dragons are new sculpts that have never appeared in any previous D&D miniatures product.

  2. It's highway robbery sure, but if I had the money I'd probably do it. Still I have my blue dragon statuette, I'm happy. Ish.

  3. I never got into Dungeons and Dragons as a kid. But I love the figurines. And I loved the cheesy Dungeons and Dragons cartoon. Yes, I'm taking it back to the 80s, lol.

  4. I agree! That does sound like highway robbery! However, at least you know your investment has appreciated over the last five years! :)
